Are one day tours available in July 2019? would birds be on the lake during these winter months?

You would have to inquire in Copiapó about tours. Nevado 3 Cruces Park is a very remote border region on the Chilean side of the Andes, and we did not spot any tour operators on the Sunday in October, when we crossed the San Francisco Pass from Argentina in our private car. I am not sure if Flamingoes feed on the lake and in what season, but if they do, you would have to be there early in the morning. We arrived at the lake around noon. Most traffic on this road went to or came from a gold mine further down the valley, but some private cars had come up to the lake. A few Argentine day tourists (not tour operators) with their cars also crossed the border with us to visit the lake.
Hi We are interested to be in nature and not always around tourists. I was thinking of heading to Nevada tres cruces on the way to Atacama, however wondering if it's necessary to do both if we are in a budget? They both sound amazing and I wonder if Atacama has similarly spectacular outdoor activates as Tres Cruces? Any information on this would be great, Cheers Eva

Hey, I was in Atacama and Tres Cruces about a month ago so I hope I can help :) Atacama is amazing, there are loads of amazing things to do and see, the most similar to Tres Cruces as you can get in Atacama are the Altiplanic lagoons (which are also quite expensive, but not nearly as much as Tres Cruces). Me and my friends went first to Atacama and then to Tres Cruces and personally Tres Cruces is the best sight I have ever seen in my life, especially if you want to be somewhere alone and with basically no tourists and see nature at its best. Because it's so far away and secluded you pay a lot for the trip to the park but we all agreed it's well worth it. Atacama is very filled with tourists, so even if you go see the lagoons you are never going to be alone, while in this park there were just me and my friends on the trip (with the guide). Hope I helped and have fun in Chile! Sara
Hi, One of my friend and I are going to Copiapo next week and we really want to go there. This place seems to be amazing but unfortunately, we didn't have our driving license. Do you know if there are some guides or buses to go there ? Alexandre

Copiapo is served by the major bus lines which travel all over northern Chile. (Pullman and Tur bus are two of the main lines.) Just go to the bus depot in any major city and you can buy tickets. The schedules are sometimes available on-line for your review--just google the bus line's name. (And traveling by bus is VERY reasonable in Chile and really pretty good overall.) There are tour operators and guides who provide transportation and tours to the Parque Nacional Nevada tres Cruces. You can find out about them at the Tourist Information Center which is located on the main square in Copiapo, kitty-cornered from the Cathedral. Yes, Copiapo is a great town.
