With his father, Todd, throwing to him and his little brother, Todd Jr., catching, Raleigh became the first catcher ever to win Major League Baseball’s Home Run Derby when he bested Junior Caminero — who nearly became the youngest player to win the event — 18-15 in the finals.
Todd Raleigh's time coaching at Tennessee was ending. He could have pursued more coaching opportunities. Instead he went home to his family.
The Home Run Derby was a truly full-circle moment for Cal Raleigh – aka Big Dumper – with his dad, Todd Raleigh, on the mound throwing to him and his 15-year-old brother, Todd Raleigh Jr., behind the plate catching.
Raleigh isn't the first player to choose his father as his Home Run Derby pitcher. Bryce Harper won the derby in 2018 with his dad, Ron, pitching to him, while Robinson Cano won in 2011 with his dad, Jose, on the mound. Adley Rutschman, meanwhile, had his dad pitch in the 2023 Home Run Derby.
