Forty-eight hours ago, Rogers was a Cincinnati Red. He was traded, along with shortstop prospect Sammy Stafura, to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes. Now, he heads to Chicago. In return, the Cubs sent outfielder Ivan Brethowr to the Pirates for Rogers.

The Chicago Cubs may not have made a big splash at the trade deadline, after missing out on Eugenio Suarez and failing to acquire another starting pitcher other than Mike Soroka. However, they added multiple pieces to the roster and snuck one final trade in before the trade deadline passed.
