A woman from Siddipet district in Telangana has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barr Syndrome (GBS), a rare nerve disorder, that is currently prevalent in some parts of Pune and surrounding areas, making it the first known case in the state.

Guillain-Barré Syndrome is a rare neurological disorder where the body’s immune system—which normally protects it from infections and other foreign bodies—mistakenly attacks its own peripheral nerve cells.

Cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) are on the rise, triggering concern among health officials. As of January 29, a total of three GBS-suspected deaths have been reported in West Bengal, with over 120 cases of the rare autoimmune disease detected in Maharashtra.
