As far as I know, all bald cypress trees (Taxodium distichum var. distichum) have the ability to produce knees. Whether they do or not, however, is mostly due to growing conditions.
Bald cypress seed cones are globular, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter, and they turn from green to brown as the seeds mature. Twenty or more rather large triangular seeds are produced in each cone.
Lecanium scale attach themselves to the leaves and twigs of trees and feed on plant nutrients, causing significant damage.
When needles are present on bald cypress trees in spring and summer, they are medium green in color and have a soft, feathery appearance and feel. The overall shape of the tree is broadly pyramidal.
Red maples have a 75-year lifespan, while bald cypress trees can live for centuries. Note: Be sure to purchase locally grown plants, not specimens cultivated in Northern states.

Some of these trees don't seem to like our soils and thus become chlorotic and turn yellow. The same thing can happen with regular bald cypress. The key is where the trees were grown.
