The creation of the park, however, was heavily resisted by the residents of Cades Cove Tennessee. Despite their best efforts, they all eventually were removed or left their homes.

Cades Cove has an estimated 2 million visitors every year. It is on the Tennessee side of the park near Townsend. The Cades Cove Loop Road was last fully resurfaced in 2010.

Great Smoky Mountains Natl. Park — Vehicle-free Wednesdays on Cades Cove Loop Road will begin May 4 through September 28, according to Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
