Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum told supporters in a massive rally on Sunday that dialogue and respect had prevailed in achieving a pause on U.S. tariffs and that the sovereignty of Mexico would always come first.

Trump’s tariffs on Mexico and Canada went into effect at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday. On Thursday afternoon, Trump signed an executive action that delayed tariffs on most Mexican imports and some Canadian imports under the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement until April 2.

The pause, which lasts until April 2, came one day after the White House announced similar relief for automakers.

After a call with President Sheinbaum, Trump announced that most Mexico imports will not be subject to tariffs until at least early April.
