A statue honoring George Washington will be on display in the Florida Capitol until February 2026. It is in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

According to legend, British soldiers used the stairs when they breached the Capitol in 1814 when “attacking” sitting President George Washington during what became known as the war of 1812.
