Reform UK has won the Runcorn and Helsby by-election by just six votes, beating Labour after a dramatic recount. In Sir Keir Starmer's first major electoral test as prime minister, former Conservative councillor Sarah Pochin overturned a 14,696 majority to take the Cheshire seat for Reform.
Reform would win landslide if Runcorn swing repeated at general election
Reform overturned a comfortable Labour majority of almost 15,000 in Runcorn. This swing, if replicated at a general election, would leave it with a majority of 190 – well above Labour’s 172 majority last July and even higher than Sir Tony Blair’s victory in 1997.
