FEMA officials will be on the ground in Wisconsin on Thursday to assess the historic flooding damage. So far, staff at 211 have taken more than 16,000 damage reports in Milwaukee County.

Between 40 and 60 FEMA staff will be deployed to southeastern Wisconsin, according to the Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management.

Add the Milwaukee Common Council to the list of Wisconsin officials asking President Donald Trump and FEMA administrators to declare the Aug. 9-10 rainstorms a natural disaster and provide federal aid.

A week after catastrophic flooding hit southeastern Wisconsin, Milwaukee County residents like Jessica Young are still dealing with extensive damage and insurance denials.

Once damage assessment are complete, the governor's office will submit a formal request to the president through FEMA and the US Department of Homeland Security seeking a federal disaster declaration. If approved, this declaration unlocks additional federal funding and resources to support long-term recovery.
