Amazon’s server farms in eastern Oregon are using much less fossil fuel to power their operations, new data shows, sharply reducing its carbon emissions after five years of steep increases. The shift is apparent in a new state report on the small electric utility that serves Amazon’s data centers in Morrow and Umatilla counties.

An Amazon spokesperson said an incident that involved a crash at a testing facility in Oregon was not the primary reason for the pause.

Amazon confirmed that it voluntarily paused its Prime Air drone deliveries in Texas and Arizona, but downplayed the role of a reported crash of two drones in December at an Oregon testing facility as a factor in the decision.

Amazon spokesperson Sam Stephenson says the reason why the company decided to pause drone deliveries wasn’t because of a recent accident at its test site in Pendleton, Oregon, in December.

Amazon is moving ahead with plans for drone deliveries in Darlington, seeking CAA approval for its Prime Air service and joining broader efforts to enable commercial drone flights across the UK.

ALGOMA – A 30-year-old Berlin man is dead after his pickup truck caught fire in a two-vehicle crash in town of Algoma Wednesday evening.
