WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Friday called for the Federal Reserve’s board of governors to usurp the power of Fed Chair Jerome Powell, criticizing the head of the U.S. central bank for not cutting short-term interest rates.

The resignation comes as President Trump has openly pressured the central bank to lower interest rates and called for Jerome H. Powell, the chair, to step down.

President Trump has stepped up his criticism of the Fed since chair Jerome Powell said that the central bank would keep its short-term interest rate unchanged.
