LITTLE TOKYO, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Members of Southern California's Japanese community celebrated the New Year with Oshogatsu festivals and prayers for good luck in 2024.

During Oshogatsu, kids receive colorful envelopes filled with money from family members called Otoshidama. Originally, toshidama was an offering to the god of a shrine during New Years.
