The latest moves by US allies France, Britain and Canada – while in many ways largely symbolic – have left Washington increasingly isolated over its backing for Israel.

Canada blames the violence from Hamas for the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, but also pointed a finger at Israel for allowing settlements in the West Bank and Netanyahu's failure to prevent the crisis.

Prime Minister Mark Carney said July 30 that Canada intends to recognize a Palestinian state in September, following similar moves by France and Britain.
