U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday his administration later in the day will begin sending letters to 10 to 12 countries informing them of the tariff rate their products will face in the United States.

Trump told reporters he would begin sending countries letters setting tariff rates rather than negotiate 170 trade deals worldwide.

With just five days remaining in the tariff moratorium, the White House is expected to begin delivering a message to a dozen or so countries: Time is up, and here’s your new rate.

Trump said after Thursday's conversation that he did not think Putin was looking to stop the war. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Putin told Trump that Russia expects to agree a date for a third round of peace talks with Ukraine,

I didn’t make any progress with him today at all,” Trump said of Putin, speaking to reporters as he left Washington to deliver a speech in Iowa. According to a Kremlin briefing on the call, Trump urged Putin to quickly end the war in Ukraine but Putin refused.
