Winds could blow smoke from the Bear Gulch fire burning on the Olympic Peninsula, bringing the potential for unhealthy air and hazy skies.

While relief from the heat in the form of cool, Pacific breezes are on the way to Western Washington, the near-record hot temperatures on Tuesday has allowed two major fires in the Northwest to erupt with flames and smoke during the day.

Air quality has taken a serious hit across the United States as a two-fold blow of wildfires in the West and in Canada have sent smoke pouring across large sections of the country — a problem that’s set to linger for days.
