The two border crossings that have seen the sharpest drop in traffic from Canada are Alexandria Bay and Ogdensburg. In April, crossings in both places were down by more than 31% since last spring.

Crossings between Canada into the United States have declined to their lowest level since 2023, recent data from U.S. Customs and Border Patrol show.

Canada is witnessing a surge in asylum claims from international students, with 132,525 claims filed in the first nine months of 2024. Of these, international students filed 13,660 claims.
