Severe storms were expected to rip across parts of the northern U.S. on Monday, bringing numerous hazards to multiple states.

The NWS forecast office, Des Moines, Iowa said on X, Thursday: "Several rounds of storms are forecast late tonight through Fri with heavy rain expected, especially during the overnight hours.

The National Weather Service's Climate Prediction Center has released its latest long-range tropical forecast, which has flagged an area for potential for tropical activity mid-July in the Gulf.
