New York is cleaning up and trying to dry out after Monday night's torrential rains caused flash flooding and damage.
Severe thunderstorms and torrential rain slammed the East Coast on Thursday, stranding vehicles, suspending train service, and triggering flash flood warnings from Virginia to Connecticut.
On average, the city sees two heat waves per summer, lasting around four days each. The longest heat wave ever recorded in the city lasted 12 days in 1953 from Aug. 24 to Sept. 4.
