DeSantis said he's considering standing up a facility at a Florida National Guard training center known as Camp Blanding, about 30 miles southwest of Jacksonville.

He did not explain why the Camp Blanding project would be done differently. Most of the money for Alligator Alcatraz comes from a $500 million emergency fund first approved by the Legislature in 2022.

If the cadence is strong and it justifies up to Northeast Florida and establishing a footprint at Camp Blanding, we will do that,” said DeSantis.
