The Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians has purchased the space in downtown Sacramento once occupied by Macy's.

The now-shuttered Macy's store originally opened in 1963. Historians say the business was a key part of downtown Sacramento's development, including helping shape the route of Interstate 5.
