China on Monday lodged a protest with India over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday greetings to the Dalai Lama and the participation of Indian ministers at his 90th birthday celebrations, asking New Delhi to respect Beijing’s sensitivities on Tibet-related matters,

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told reporters that the country's position on Tibet is consistent and well-known. Mao further stated that the Dalai Lama is a political exile and alleged that he has been involved in efforts to separate Xizang -- also known as Tibet outside China -- under the guise of religion.

China protests India's actions regarding Dalai Lama's birthday, urging New Delhi to respect Beijing's sensitivities on Tibet-related issues.
